Laredo Medical Center Women's Imaging provides two specialized centers in North & South Laredo that provide a wide range of services by a compassionate team of healthcare professionals in a comfortable and convenient setting.
Services include:
3D Mammogram
A breast tomosynthesis scan produces a high-definition, three-dimensional view of the breast tissue that helps detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, while it is easier to treat and more curable.
Though the 3D mammogram is performed in the same way as traditional mammography, this type of mammography is beneficial for women with dense breast tissue because it provides a clearer picture for radiologists, which reduces the risk of a false positive. The new system features a proprietary curved paddle that mirrors the shape of a woman's breast to reduce pinching and allow better distribution of force over the entire breast to improve the patient's experience. Three-dimensional (3D) mammography is technology that helps detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it can be easier to treat and more curable.
Screening recommendations:
The National Cancer Institute recommends that women age 40 or older should have a screening mammogram every 1 to 2 years.
Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. An order from a physician or qualified healthcare provider is not required, but the patient must provide a physician/provider name when an appointment is made. All mammogram reports will be sent to the physician/provider, and the patient is responsible for follow-up. Check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage for a screening mammogram.
Breast ultrasound
This noninvasive procedure uses a transducer probe to create additional diagnostic images to help discover tumors and cysts in the breast.
Breast ultrasound may also be used to identify masses in women whose breast tissue is too dense to be measured accurately by mammography.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy and Ultrasound-guided Breast Biopsy
Stereotactic biopsies are often simpler, quicker and more comfortable for patients than traditional open surgical biopsies. Our technology is a minimally invasive, one-step procedure that uses ultrasound and/or mammographic guidance to create a three-dimensional image of the breast. This can lead the radiologist to the exact location of the abnormal tissues to remove a sample of the breast tissue to examine. This procedure is performed at Laredo Medical Center Women's Imaging at LMC North, 7210 McPherson.
Bone Density (DEXA Scan)
This noninvasive scan allows for the early detection of bone loss and the diagnosis of osteoporosis to assist in the prevention of fractures. It takes approximately 10 minutes and can help determine the bone density of the spine, hip and/or wrist.
