Laredo Medical Center is proud to recognize Sonia Gomez, RN, as the recipient of its 2024 Nursing Excellence Award, an honor that highlights the exceptional commitment and compassion shown by nurses in direct patient care.
This award was established in 2020 during the “Year of the Nurse” to honor the vital role nurses have played throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Receiving 11 nominations, Gomez was selected for consistently demonstrating the core values of excellence in nursing—compassion, professionalism and a deep commitment to patient well-being.
Gomez serves as a bedside nurse in the hospital’s Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU), where she is known for her kindness, clinical skills and collaborative spirit. She joined Laredo Medical Center in April 2023 and brings nine years of nursing experience to her role. She is also a valued member of the SNU team, which has earned a “High Performing” rating from U.S. News & World Report for eight consecutive years, placing it among the best in Texas.
“We are honored to recognize Sonia for the outstanding care she provides to our patients each day,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Laredo Medical Center. “She truly reflects the dedication and compassion found in all of our nurses. This award is a testament to her commitment to excellence and the difference she makes in the lives of others.”
