Laredo Medical Center- Sleep Center receives Accreditation

Laredo Medical Center - Sleep Center has received accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for a period of five years beginning July 10, 2020. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is considered the gold standard accreditation which demonstrates a sleep medicine provider’s commitment to high quality, patient- centered care through adherence of standards that address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, patient care and quality assurance.

The Laredo Medical Center Sleep Center will provide treatment of common sleep disorders in patients ranging from young adults to geriatrics, including:
- Insomnia – difficulty falling and remaining asleep;
- Sleep apnea – or the interruption of breathing during sleep;
- Restless leg/periodic limb movement disorder – aches and pains in the legs that make it difficult to fall asleep and remain asleep;
- Narcolepsy – excessive daytime sleepiness that sometimes results in “sleep attacks,” sudden and unpredictable episodes of sleep during the day;
- Sleepwalking – involves getting up and walking around while in a state of sleep;
- Night terrors – experiencing feelings of fear, dread and terror during sleep; and
- REM behavior disorders – involves person acting out the dreams through limb movement and talking.
The center will offer two private suites in a bed and breakfast atmosphere where patients will stay overnight to participate in a sleep study, a specialized test that records a patient’s body movements, brain waves, blood oxygen levels, breathing patterns, heart rhythms, snoring levels and more while sleeping.
Licensed qualified sleep experts will use medical equipment to monitor patients all night long, while they sleep, to evaluate their sleeping patterns.
The LMC Sleep Center offers a free preliminary sleep evaluation to determine if the prospective patient may need further testing or treatment. Scheduling is flexible by serving patients six days a week.
Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances are accepted. A history, physical and doctor’s prescription are required before scheduling. Help in finding a physician and receiving assistance through the admission process is available.
