Laredo Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit Receives ‘High Performing’ rating from U.S. News Again
12/9/2022
The Laredo Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) is among the 16% of U.S. skilled nursing facilities that have been recognized as a Best Nursing Home for 2022-23 by U.S. News & World Report.
LMC’s SNU earned Best Nursing Homes status by achieving a rating of “High Performing,” the highest possible rating, for short-term rehabilitation. U.S. News gives the designation of Best Nursing Home only to those homes that satisfy U.S. News’ assessment of the appropriate use of key services and consistent performance in quality measures. Laredo Medical Center’s SNU is the only local facility to have earned the “High Performing” rating.
“This is the sixth year in a row Laredo Medical Center’s skilled nursing unit receives this distinguished honor. We are very proud of our SNU interdisciplinary team for their commitment to provide patients, their families and their physicians the best possible rehabilitation and care plan for each individual,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO. “It is indeed an honor to be consistently recognized with a high-performing rating for the quality and compassionate care we provide.”
Now in its 13th year, Best Nursing Homes evaluates more than 15,000 nursing homes on care, safety, infection rates, staffing and health inspections. For the first time, the Best Nursing Homes ratings feature measurements on weekend staffing and infection rates that led to hospitalizations.
This year's methodology includes an emphasis on homes meeting certain standards in resident care, safety and outcomes, among others. To calculate the Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using a variety of data obtained from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

LMC’s SNU is an 18-bed facility that offers short-term post-acute care for patients recovering from a hospital stay, including stroke, heart attack, infection or accidental injury. Maria Salinas, MSN, RN, is the director of this unit.
