Free Community Talk to Highlight Breast Cancer Awareness at Laredo Medical Center
10/2/2026
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, but greater awareness, personalized screening and early detection can help improve outcomes. Knowing the warning signs and understanding individual risk factors are important steps women can take to protect their breast health.
As part of Laredo Medical Center’s Healthy Connections series, Parul Mamgain, M.D., a board-certified family medicine physician at Primary Care Associates of Laredo, will present “Breast Cancer: What You Need to Know.” The free community talk will focus on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, key facts about the disease, risk factors and the importance of recommended testing and early detection.
The presentation will review warning signs such as a new lump or thickening in the breast’s size or shape, skin dimpling or redness and unusual discharge. Attendees will learn why any new or unusual breast change should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
“Breast cancer does not always cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages, which is why screening is so important,” said Dr. Mamgain. “A mammogram may detect cancer before a lump can be felt, when there may be more treatment options available.
The program will also explore factors that may increase a woman’s risk, including age, family or personal health history, certain inherited genetic changes and breast density. Dr. Mamgain will explain how breast screening recommendations may vary and how women can work with their healthcare providers to develop a plan based on their individual health history and risk factors.
“Understanding your personal risk is an important part of preventive care,” Dr. Mamgain added. “Women should talk with their healthcare provider about their family history, when to begin mammograms and whether they may benefit from additional screening. These conversations can help create a personalized roadmap for breast health.”
The presentation is for women of all ages, as well as family members and caregivers who want to learn more about breast cancer awareness and early detection. The event will include time for questions and discussion.
The program will be on Thursday, October 15, at 12 p.m. at the Laredo Medical Center Community Center, Tower B, first floor.
Admission is free, but space is limited. Lunch will be provided. Reserve your space online at https://rebrand.ly/f9xstc4 or by calling the LMC marketing office at (956) 796-3223.
