Laredo Medical Center’s Texas Ten Step Designation Recognizes Quality Care for Mothers and Babies

LAREDO, TX (January 4, 2024) — Laredo Medical Center is dedicated to providing expectant mothers and newborns in the Laredo-Webb County region with quality maternal and fetal care.
In 2023, Laredo Medical Center was recognized by the state of Texas for its commitment to making safety a top priority for mothers and babies.
Texas Health and Human Services designated the hospital as a Texas Ten Step facility for demonstrating a commitment to improving maternity care and optimal breastfeeding support for new moms and their babies.
“Designation as a Texas Ten Step Hospital is a major accomplishment for Laredo Medical Center. This program promotes environments where women are able to make informed decisions about how to feed their babies. As a designated facility, we provide moms with breastfeeding education, resources and continued support to help them get off to the best start,” says Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO of Laredo Medical Center.
Expectant moms are invited to sign up for a free Breastfeeding Basics class offered by Laredo Medical Center’s lactation specialists. Register online at laredomedical.com/classes-events-programs or call (956) 796-2611.
Maternal and Fetal Safety
Another way that Laredo Medical Center is enhancing patient safety during labor and delivery is via an artificial intelligence-based maternal-fetal early warning system. The system continuously monitors maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate, contractions, and labor progression to help clinicians quickly identify any concerning developments for faster intervention.
“Laredo Medical Center delivers more than 2,500 babies each year” says Leal. “By investing in this technology, Laredo Medical Center is making labor and delivery safer for mothers and babies. Our physicians and nurses are highly skilled medical professionals and dedicated caregivers and they appreciate the use of technology to support their work, especially when it helps keep our patients safe.”
Laredo Medical Center is a Level II (Specialty Care) maternal facility in perinatal care, offers a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and is associated with the Texas AIM state program for maternal safety.
