Laredo Medical Center Welcomes James Vincent Cortez, M.D., as 2025 Chief of Staff

LAREDO, Texas, JANUARY 24, 2025 – James Vincent Cortez, M.D., has been elected chief of staff for Laredo Medical Center. He replaces Dr. Amando Garza IV, who served from January to December 2024.
Dr. Cortez is a diagnostic radiologist specialist and has been part of the LMC medical staff since 2018.
“Congratulations to Dr. Cortez on his new appointment with our medical staff leadership at Laredo Medical Center,” said CEO Jorge Leal, FACHE. “He has the skills and experience needed to help us expand the vital partnership between the hospital’s physicians and staff to continue delivering quality clinical outcomes and exceptional patient care. Special thanks to Dr. Garza for his service last year and we enthusiastically welcome Dr. Cortez.”
Dr. Cortez earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas in 2013. He is a native Laredoan who graduated from J.W. Nixon High School and went on to receive a degree from Texas A&M International University.
In his role as chief of staff, Dr. Cortez serves as chairman of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee (MEC), presides over all meetings of the medical staff, advises the hospital administration and the MEC on matters impacting patient care, and serves as spokesperson for the medical staff.
