Laredo Medical Center to Host Home Run to Health Fair for Men
6/3/2022
Men in the U.S., on average, die five years earlier than women and die at higher rates from the leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer and unintentional injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
To raise awareness on ways men can better manage their health, Laredo Medical Center will host the first-ever Home Run to Health Men’s Health Fair on Monday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hospital’s main entrance lobby.
The health fair will launch Men’s Health Week, June 13-19, the week before Father’s Day. June is recognized as Men’s Health Month.
“We want the men in our community to score a home run for a brighter and healthier future. Prevention is the key to healthier lives, and we encourage the community to come out and learn how men can take better care of their bodies by eating right, exercising and working to prevent disease,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO of Laredo Medical Center.
The health fair will be decorated with a motif of sports and popular men’s pastimes with representatives from several hospital departments to educate and inform men on stroke and heart disease prevention, sleep disorders, outpatient rehabilitation, and bariatric surgery for weight loss.
Additionally, Border Region Behavioral Health Center and the City of Laredo Health Department will be present to offer information on mental health and other important health interests for men.
Admission is free and open to the public. All who enter the hospital must wear a facemask for the safety of patients, visitors and caregivers.
