8/2/2021
Laredo Medical Center ER is offering monoclonal antibody therapies for treating patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 symptoms. This one-time ER infusion therapy may help patients recover quicker and avoid hospitalization. This treatment is especially useful for patients with conditions that put them at higher risk of developing a more severe form of the disease.
If you have recently tested positive for COVID-19, visit one of our emergency departments, which are open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Monoclonal antibody therapy is approved for certain patients who:
- Have positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 viral testing;
- Are experiencing mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms, and
- Are at high-risk for COVID-19 symptoms progressing to severe levels.
High risk is defined as patients who meet at least one of the following criteria in addition to meeting the previous criteria:
- Are 65 years or older
- Have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or higher
- Have diabetes, chronic kidney disease, or a immunosuppressive disease
- Are currently taking immunosuppressive medication
- Are 55 years or older and have heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), or a chronic respiratory disease.
