Laredo Medical Center appoints Dr. John Conlon Chief Medical Officer

Dr. John “Jay” Conlon has been appointed chief medical officer (CMO) of Laredo Medical Center. He joined LMC on April 18 after serving as CMO, since 2016, at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Mass. In that capacity, he managed clinical operations, serving as the chief liaison between administration and medical staff, for a 212 licensed-bed facility with over 1,000 medical staff providers, and recognized as one of just 23 U.S. hospitals to earn Straight A’s from Leapfrog from 2012 to the present.

Prior to joining the team at LMC, Dr. Conlon oversaw a quality team at Saint Anne’s that continued to achieve the Leapfrog A safety grade scores and garnered numerous Healthgrades awards for patient safety excellence, outstanding patient experience and pulmonary care specialty excellence, among other notable achievements. Under his leadership, Dr. Conlon was also successful in achieving the Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. He also is credited for helping the hospital win the 2020 Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospital Cancer Care and oversaw the introduction of robotic spinal navigation surgery, and the expansion and growth of their robotic surgical programs.
Prior to his time at Saint Anne’s, Dr. Conlon served as vice president of medical affairs at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, New York. He also has served as the chief of emergency medicine at hospitals in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire and as regional medical director of Correctional Medical Services in Delaware.
Dr. Conlon earned his Bachelor of Science from St. John’s University in New York; a master’s in business administration, with special emphasis on medical management, from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst; and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed residencies in emergency medicine and general surgery at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, NY, and served for 20 years as a commander in the United States Naval Reserve.
Dr. Conlon is a certified physician executive, board certified in emergency medicine, and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine. He and his wife of 33 years are the proud parents of three children.
