Laredo Medical Center and Laredo Association of Realtors Rally Community to Get Active for Better Health February 7

A popular Washington’s Birthday tradition that encourages Laredoans of all ages to walk, run and thrive for healthier lifestyles will be held on Saturday, February 7, at Laredo Medical Center.
Originally known as the WBCA Founding Fathers’ 5K Run, last year the event was rebranded and reenergized in 2024 as the Laredo Association of Realtors(LAR) Run George Run 5K Run and Walk. LAR is a Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) affiliate.
Along with the race is a free Wellness Fair, courtesy of title sponsor Laredo Medical Center, and many other fun and interactive activities from other local organizations for all ages to enjoy at the hospital’s main campus, located at 1700 E. Saunders Street.
The Wellness Fair will be from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the LMC Tower B Rotunda and Community Center. A variety of health screenings and wellness information will be offered free of charge to the runners, walkers and general public. Critical screenings will include cholesterol and glucose, blood pressure and pulmonary function, among others. Fasting is required for the cholesterol and glucose screenings.
The public can also take advantage of free hernia screenings by surgeons from Laredo Physician Associates, and clinical breast health examinations by a healthcare provider from Primary Care Associates of Laredo. The fair will also offer the community an opportunity to participate in tai chi and Zumba demonstrations.
Recognized as one of Laredo’s premiere chip-timed 5K events, this year’s race will consist of a 3.1-mile run and a one-mile walk. Registration is a flat fee of $35 before race day, or $45 on race day. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Voz de Niños Court Appointed Advocates for Children.
