Laredo Medical Center and Laredo Association of Realtors Invite Community to Step Toward Better Health on February 1

LAREDO, Texas, JANUARY 24, 2025 – A popular Washington’s Birthday tradition that encourages Laredoans of all ages to step it up for healthier lifestyles will be held on February 1 at Laredo Medical Center.
Originally known as the WBCA Founding Fathers’ 5K Run, last year the event was rebranded and reenergized as the Laredo Association of Realtors (LAR) Run George Run 5K Run and Walk. LAR is a Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) affiliate.
Along with the race is a free Wellness Fair, courtesy of title sponsor Laredo Medical Center, and many other fun and interactive activities from other local organizations for all ages to enjoy at the hospital’s main campus, located at 1700 E. Saunders Street.
The Wellness Fair will be from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the LMC Tower B Rotunda and Community Center. A variety of health screenings and wellness information will be offered free of charge to the runners, walkers and general public. Critical screenings will include cholesterol and glucose, blood pressure and pulmonary function. Fasting is required for the cholesterol and glucose screenings.
The public can also take advantage of free hernia screenings by some of the hospital’s surgeons and clinical breast examinations by a healthcare provider from Primary Care Associates of Laredo. The fair will also offer the community an opportunity to participate in tai chi and Zumba demonstrations.
Recognized as one of Laredo’s premiere chip-timed 5K events, this year’s race will consist of a 3.1-mile run and a one-mile walk. Registration is a flat fee of $30 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Laredo-Webb County.
