Sports, DOT Physical Exams Can Help Detect Medical Problems
7/21/2022
Laredo CareClinic is now offering two types of physical exams to help detect medical problems before the symptoms appear.
Sports Physicals
Back to school usually means new clothes, new school supplies and new schedules. But, for children in sports, cheerleading, band or dance, back to school also means a dash for sports physicals.
Sports physicals help recognize developing medical issues before they become serious. One example of this is eyesight. Research has linked poor eyesight with poor performance in the classroom. If left unaddressed, common eye problems may result in poor grades and classroom frustration.
During the month of July, sports physicals are available for $20 at Laredo CareClinic’s two convenient locations. It also is offering the TB test for $15.
Parents should bring their child’s physical form with the health history section completed and signed. For those who don’t have the form, they can obtain it at the clinic.
In addition, students should bring their prescribed eye glasses or contact lenses, and, if applicable, a clearance letter from their doctor for patients with heart problems, surgeries or fractures within the past year. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are also accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

DOT Physicals
Because their jobs may impact the safety of the public aside from their own, commercial drivers are required to have a regular physical examination as part of their compliance with the Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Commercial drivers are required to take a DOT physical every two years to obtain certification that they are of good health before being permitted to work.
Aside from complying with the law and gaining clearance to work, a DOT physical offers an opportunity for drivers to monitor their weight, body mass index, cholesterol levels and blood pressure levels to have a better understanding of their general condition and address any health issues right away to prevent complications.
Laredo CareClinic’s south location is licensed and accredited to offer the DOT physical, which is offered by appointment only with convenient truck parking available. OSHA/Environmental physicals, pre-employment physicals and Fit testing are not available. To schedule an appointment, call (956) 724-5525.
