Laredo Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing Unit Earns 5-Star Ratings
3/18/2021
The Laredo Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) has once again received five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Nursing Home Compare Five-Star Quality Rating System for January 2020.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services created its Five-Star Quality Rating System to help patients, families, and caregivers in the selection of nursing facilities. Facilities are assigned an overall rating from 1 to 5, with five-star facilities designated as providing care that is “much above average” quality. The overall rating is based on three sources: health inspections, staffing and quality of resident care measures. Each source is also rated independently.
Located within the hospital’s main campus, the skilled nursing unit received an overall 5-star rating, an “above average” 4-star rating for health inspections, and a “much above average” 5-star rating for staffing and quality of resident care.
The 5-star ratings are the latest accolade earned by Laredo Medical Center’s SNU. In November 2020, the skilled nursing unit at Laredo Medical Center once again received a high-performing rating from U.S. News & World Report and is included in its list of the 2020-21 U.S. News Best Nursing Homes for short-term rehabilitation for the fourth year in a row.
“Laredo Medical Center is very proud of our SNU interdisciplinary team for their success in working closely with patients, their families and their physicians to develop the best possible rehabilitation and care plan for each individual. This honor is a reflection of our team’s hard work and devotion to quality care,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO.
Unit Director Maria Salinas, R.N., expressed pride for her team’s outstanding efforts.
“I’m so proud of my team for working together towards a goal, and that is to provide quality care for our patients,” said Salinas.
LMC’s SNU is an 18-bed facility that offers short-term post-acute care for patients recovering from a hospital stay, including stroke, heart attack, infection or accidental injury.
