Laredo Medical Center Hosts Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive to Fight Hunger
3/8/2024
LAREDO, TX (March 7, 2024) –Community members are invited to join Laredo Medical Center’s efforts to fight hunger by participating in the second annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefiting the South Texas Food Bank.
Peanut butter is a sought after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. Yet, it is one of the least donated items.
The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive kicked off on March 4 and will run through March 25.
“We recognize the impact hunger has on an individual’s health and wellbeing, and we want to help those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity,” says Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO of Laredo Medical Center. “In Laredo and surrounding communities, one in six people and one in four children are facing food insecurity. Our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive is a great way to partner with community members to reduce hunger in our area.”
Laredo Medical Center will accept plastic jar donations (no glass) of peanut butter or other nutritious butters like almond butter and sunflower seed butter. Donations can be dropped off at the Laredo Medical Center Cafeteria, located at 1700 E. Saunders Street, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or on the weekends from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students can earn five community service hours for every two jars donated.
“Our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive is another way we demonstrate our care for this community. We hope members of the community will join us in this important initiative to help fight hunger,” adds Leal.
