Laredo Physician Associates, Laredo CareClinics and LMC North Central ER provide additional access and care to the community
LAREDO, TX (January 4, 2024) – In 2023, Laredo Medical Center celebrated a 129-year tradition of caring in the Laredo-Webb County region with a continued commitment to quality patient care and additional services. In addition to the main hospital campus, care is also provided through Laredo Physician Associates, two Laredo CareClinic locations and LMC North Central ER.
“We are proud of our legacy of caring for the community and we look forward to doing this for generations to come. I am grateful for our outstanding caregiving team and medical staff who show their passionate commitment with each patient we have the privilege to serve,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO of Laredo Medical Center. “Change is constant and we’re excited about it. Growth and excellence in patient care can only come from change, and how we respond and adapt to that change makes all the difference.”
Working with medical staff and a local board of physicians and community leaders, the hospital continuously reviews how to best meet the healthcare needs of the community.
Here are a few highlights from 2023:
Significant Investments
We have made several investments to expand services and enhance quality of care for our patients. Investments include:
- Renovating the cardiac catheterization (cath) lab, which is enhancing cardiac care and bringing new electrophysiology services never offered before to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms;
- Expanding Laredo Medical Center’s surgical services, with the addition of a second robotic-assisted surgical system, which can often provide shorter recovery times for complex procedures;
- New monitoring program for patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension, heart failure and type 2 diabetes, which is supporting earlier interventions and better outcomes for patients; and
- Refreshing the hospital’s interior aesthetics, including flooring, lighting, furniture, wall art and fixtures, which offer a new look and feel that is welcoming to patients and visitors, as well as beneficial to the healing process.
Primary Care
Access to primary care continued to grow and thrive in the community. Laredo Medical Center affiliate, Primary Care Associates of Laredo, has grown from one family medicine physician in 2018 to eight providers.
Five convenient locations are available – 7210 McPherson Road, 8607 McPherson Road, 1119 Fenwick Drive and 4151 Jaime Zapata Highway (two suites). For more information or online scheduling, visit laredophysicianassociates.com.
The primary care residency programs have graduated 47 resident physicians since 2021, with 47 resident physicians currently enrolled.
Heart and Vascular Services
Heart and vascular services experienced high growth in 2023 with the reopening of the Open Heart Program, led by Arthur Santos, M.D. Dr. Santos has more than 20 years of experience in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery – and with the support of an experienced cardiovascular thoracic team, they offer quality care and services to the Laredo-Webb County region exclusively at Laredo Medical Center.
Accreditations and Quality
Our commitment to excellence and devotion to patient safety have been demonstrated through new designations and reaccreditations by several departments and services, including:
- The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval© for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers;
- Texas Department of State Health Services – designation as a Level II (Specialty Care) maternal facility in perinatal care, Texas Ten Step Hospital and Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite; and

“We enjoy being a part of the Laredo community today, as we have been for 129 years. Everything we do is because we want to continue to be a resource to support our families, friends and neighbors with the quality medical services they need during all phases of life,” said Leal.
