Laredo Medical Center Adds Robotic Surgical System
3/22/2021
Laredo Medical Center has expanded its surgical services with the addition of a modern surgical system that often provides patients with better outcomes during the recovery process for complex operations.
“At Laredo Medical Center, we are proud to provide quality surgical care with advanced technology and knowledgeable and experienced surgeons,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, chief executive officer. “The investment of this new robotic surgical system—the fourth generation of its kind—is of great benefit to our patients. As the first hospital in our community to acquire this technology, Laredo Medical Center remains at the forefront of providing robotic-assisted surgery options closer to home.”
Using four robotic arms, this advanced technology can provide surgeons with greater precision, control and access to hard-to-reach areas, often allowing complex operations to be performed through just a few small incisions with less scarring and less blood loss.
The robotic surgical system can help further reduce the risk of infection, and generally provides patients with shorter hospital stays and a quicker return to normal activities.
The robot is an extension of the surgeon using it, featuring enhanced 3D, high-definition vision of operative field with up to 10x magnification, a dual console to allow a second surgeon to provide assistance, higher visual clarity of tissue and anatomy, and surgical dexterity and precision far greater than even the human hand.
The robotic surgical system will be used by our surgeons to provide the following surgical procedures:
- General surgery
- Hernia repair
- Gynecological procedures
- Urology
