Celebrating Our Nurses
5/5/2021
By Cynthia Puente, MBA, BSN, Chief Nursing Officer, Laredo Medical Center
The profession of nursing leads the charge into the future of healthcare.
The spotlight which shone on all healthcare professionals in the last year illuminated greater and well-deserved attention to the commitment and skills long associated with nursing.
The global COVID-19 pandemic did not discriminate, infecting those of all ages, backgrounds, neighborhoods, economic classes and as Annette Kennedy, president of the International Council of Nurses, says, “has shown the world the important role that nurses play in keeping people healthy across the lifespan.”
The theme for Nurses Week 2021 is extended from last year, which is Year of the Nurse; Excel-Lead-Innovate. As the largest profession in the medical field, we continue to innovate caregiving strategies to improve our patients’ outcomes and identify needs to improve access to healthcare for everyone. To paraphrase a statement from the International Council of Nurses, we are at the center of the health system, and will continue to be, as we explore new models of care.
As the nation's largest group of health care professionals, and the most trusted profession, nurses are described as essential, frontline workers and even heroes. Every day, I see in each of our nurses’ faces the tireless dedication and endless energy they devote to those in their care.
And for that, Laredo Medical Center thanks and congratulates our nurses for the courageous work they do each and every day.

Laredo Medical Center’s 2020 Clinical Director of the Year Jupiter Moneda is congratulated for his dedication to his profession by Chief Executive Officer Jorge Leal and is receiving a plaque for “Clinical Manager of the Year.” Moneda is the director of the intensive care unit.

Laredo Medical Center recently recognized Martha Garza, R.N., for her 45 years of service. She has worked at LMC in several clinical and leadership roles during her longtime tenure. Garza is currently the supervisor of nursing administration. Garza is congratulated by LMC Chief Executive Officer Jorge Leal during a ceremony where 18 hospital employees were recognized for 25 to 45 years of service for a combined total of 565 years.
