A Salute to Our Nurses: Rooted in Strength

Following a hospital stay, nearly every patient has a story about a special caregiver: their comforting touch, their listening ear, their warm smile or their ability to remember the name of a grandchild or a favorite pet. Nurses play an important role as caregivers, and much more.
Some 4.2 million registered nurses help to save lives and maintain the health of people around the country. At Laredo Medical Center, they are an integral part of keeping Laredo and surrounding communities healthy. This year’s American Association of Critical-Care Nurses celebration theme is Rooted in Strength, and is quite fitting to describe what our nurses do. They are what keeps us #LMCStrong!
National Nurses Week, May 6-12, is a time set aside to highlight the many ways that nurses work to improve health care. The annual recognition, sponsored by the American Nurses Association, is timed to coincide with National Nurses Day, May 6, and the birthday of Florence Nightingale, May 12, who is known as the founder of modern nursing.
Nurses are remarkable people. They have a passion for caring, and a commitment to quality and patient safety. They work tirelessly to ensure that our patients’ needs are met and seldom get the recognition they deserve. They want to make a difference in other people’s lives.
Laredo Medical Center will host a slate of activities to celebrate National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week, including an employee blessing, breakfast, lunch and snack days, and much more.
Furthermore, nursing excellence will be celebrated with the recognition of three DAISY Award winners. The DAISY, an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by our nurses every day. LMC is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing our nurses – nominated by patients and their families – with this special honor.
We can all play a part in encouraging our nurses here in our community who are sharing their experience, mentoring those who follow them, and providing compassionate care to our families, friends and neighbors. Let’s take time during Nurses Week to acknowledge their service.
