9/9/2022
September is Healthy Aging Month, and the community is invited to join Laredo Medical Center at their first-ever Healthy Connections Fair, featuring free health information and wellness checks, fun and interactive exhibits, and plenty more to add a twinkle to your wrinkle.
Laredo Medical Center’s Healthy Connections Fair will be on Tuesday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the hospital’s main entrance foyer. Admission is free and open to men and women of all ages.
“Whether you are 25 years old, 50 or better, the goal of this event is to raise awareness on the positive aspects of growing older,” said Jorge Leal, FACHE, CEO of Laredo Medical Center. “The fair will feature exhibits by many of our healthcare providers to help you take charge of your physical and mental health, as well as learn more about healthy eating, fall prevention and much more. All of these factors contribute to successful aging.”
Staff from several hospital departments will be on hand to educate and inform guests on heart health, stroke awareness, diabetes management, primary care, sleep disorders, nutrition, outpatient rehabilitation, bariatric surgery for weight loss and joint replacement surgery.
Glucose (blood sugar) checks, blood pressure checks and body mass index evaluations will be available at no cost. Fasting will be required for glucose checks.
Additionally, nursing and health science students from Texas A&M International University and Laredo College will present educational exhibits on important health interests for healthy aging. For those wanting to take up a new hobby with healthy benefits, they can view – and even participate –in the Laredo Tai Chi Club’s free tai chi class, held on Tuesdays at Laredo Medical Center at 9:30 a.m.
All guests who visit every exhibit table and get their exhibit card stamped at each table can enter a giveaway.
Laredo Medical Center continues to enforce its face mask policy and all who enter the hospital must wear a facemask for the safety of patients, visitors and caregivers.
