Laredo Medical Center Honors Auxilians During Volunteer Week
4/18/2025
LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Medical Center celebrated National Volunteer Week by recognizing the dedicated members of the auxiliary to Laredo Medical Center during a special appreciation ceremony held at the hospital.
The event featured remarks from hospital leadership, including Chief Executive Officer Jorge Leal and Marketing Director/Volunteer Coordinator Priscilla Salinas who all expressed heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers for their service and compassion.
Whether it's welcoming and assisting visitors at the front desk, managing the gift shop, or providing support at community health events, the auxiliary volunteers support Laredo Medical Center wherever help is needed. The volunteers also help out hospital employees further their education and advance their career skills through their yearlong fundraising efforts for a scholarship program.
“Our volunteers are the heart of this hospital,” said Leal. “Their kindness, selflessness, and commitment to helping others make a lasting impact on our patients and staff every day. We are truly grateful for the joy they bring to our hospital.”
A highlight of the ceremony was honoring Ardith Epstein, the hospital’s first volunteer to reach 50 years of service. Epstein began volunteering in 1974 at Mercy Hospital and continued her service when the hospital became Laredo Medical Center. She received a special award filled with 50 angel wings—one for each year of her service.
Hospital leaders past and present and members of the LMC Board of Directors gathered to thank Epstein and all volunteers for their enduring contributions. Volunteers were treated to a hearty meal and received a gift as a token of appreciation.
