Catholic Diocese of Laredo to Celebrate 20th Annual ‘Feast of St. Luke’ White Mass for Healthcare Professionals
10/7/2022
The Catholic Diocese of Laredo will celebrate its 20th annual White Mass in recognition of healthcare professionals and their healing ministries. The Mass will be held at San Agustin Cathedral on Wednesday, October 26, at 6:00 p.m., with a city and county proclamation presentation towards the conclusion of the service.
All medical and health care professionals from any denomination, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, EMT, missionaries, healthcare educators and even hospital volunteers are invited to attend.
A White Mass is the customary description for a liturgy for healthcare workers. Traditionally, healthcare workers wore white attire. In the Church, white symbolizes hope and comfort to the ill and hospitalized.
Saint Luke, the patron saint of physicians wrote the Gospel of Luke, which emphasized ministering to the poor, opening God’s kingdom to all, respecting life and conveying God’s mercy to everyone. Scripture describes him as both a beloved and loyal physician.
At the White Mass, representatives from many healthcare industries will be represented and will offer gifts to the altar.
Everyone in the community is invited to attend the Mass. The use of facemasks is encouraged.
