
The goal of the Emergency Department is to identify and treat patients of all ages with emergency care needs. Complementary goals include providing competent triaging assessments, prioritizing care, and determining the most appropriate care by stabilization that may result in admission or appropriate transfers to appropriate facilities. Treatment is rendered by competent and qualified individuals following the mission, vision and values of Laredo Medical Center. The Emergency Department maintains a trauma designation of Level III, according to the Texas Department of Sate Health Services.
The Emergency Department, which provides care to all ages ranging from newborns to geriatrics 24 hours/day, seven days a week, averages 40,000 visits per year.
The Emergency Department is staffed by physicians and complemented by nurse practitioners, consists of one trauma room with x-ray capability, one cardiac room, one ENT room, one OB-GYN room, one Ortho room, two Procedure rooms, one Pediatric Isolation room with negative pressure, two Observation rooms, eight Medical/Critical rooms, and five Observation rooms that includes a negative pressure room. All rooms have bedside monitoring capability. The Emergency Department cares for trauma patients, chest pain, congestive heart failures, respiratory problems, abdominal pain, neurological conditions.
Other support services available to patients in the department include, but are not limited to: respiratory therapy, laboratory, radiology and physical therapy.
